Workers’ Day 2026: Chief Adebayo Adelabu Salutes Oyo Workers, Advocates Enhanced Welfare and Fair Treatment

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the immediate past Honourable Minister of Power, has extended warm greetings to workers across Oyo State on the occasion of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, commending their unwavering dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions to the socio-economic advancement of the state.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, Chief Adelabu described workers as the backbone of society whose daily sacrifices sustain governance, commerce, and development, even amid prevailing economic challenges. He praised the commitment of Oyo workers to productivity and service, noting that their perseverance remains central to the continued progress and prosperity of the state.

Chief Adelabu emphasized the urgent need for fair treatment of workers across all sectors, stressing that the prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities must remain a fundamental priority. According to him, “No society can attain meaningful development when its workforce is neglected or demoralized. Workers deserve not only recognition for their service, but also fair wages, dignity, security, and improved welfare.”

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria further called on employers in both the public and private sectors to regard workers as indispensable partners in progress by investing in their well-being through capacity development, health insurance, workplace safety, and improved conditions of service. He maintained that a motivated and adequately supported workforce is essential to restoring and sustaining Oyo State’s renowned Pacesetter status.

Chief Adelabu also reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to policies that promote workers’ welfare, tackle poor remuneration, and encourage stronger collaboration with labour unions to enhance productivity and economic growth. As workers commemorate this year’s May Day, he urged them to remain steadfast, patriotic, and committed to excellence, while continuing to support reforms aimed at building a more prosperous Oyo State and Nigeria.

He concluded by wishing all workers a peaceful and fulfilling celebration, while acknowledging their indispensable role in nation-building.
