Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was laid to rest on Monday in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, amid prayers and an outpouring of grief from family, friends and colleagues.
A video from the burial showed the late actor’s body being moved for interment as Islamic prayers were chanted, while mourners gathered around in solemn farewell.
The emotional atmosphere reflected the deep sense of loss surrounding the burial of the 66-year-old Yoruba film icon, whose death on Sunday threw the entertainment industry into mourning.
Among those present at the burial were veteran actors Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Ireti Osayemi, Faithia Balogun, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya, alongside family members, residents and other sympathisers.
Ogogo was buried according to Islamic rites, a day after news of his death was confirmed by multiple sources.
His burial arrangements were earlier announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who disclosed that the late actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro for a lying-in-state and final burial.
Ogogo’s death came days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made emotional appeals for urgent medical assistance, revealing that their father had been battling stage-four cancer.
According to the family, doctors had informed them that chemotherapy could no longer continue due to his deteriorating condition, prompting efforts to seek alternative medical help.
A prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, Ogogo built a career that spanned decades and earned him a place among the most respected actors in Nollywood.
