Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, joins ancestors at 93

93-year-old Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has joined his ancestors, according to reliable sources  on Sunday in Ibadan.

The sources, who pleaded anonymity, told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that the traditional ruler died at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, in the early hours of Sunday during an illness.

Oba Adetunji died few weeks after two prominent traditional rulers in Oyo State, Soun of Ogbomoso and Asigangan of Igangan, joined their ancestors.

Oba Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, ascended the throne of his forefathers on March 4, 2016.

A palace source and one of the aides to the traditional ruler, who pleaded anonymity, said the Olubadan-in-Council would soon make an  official announcement on the demise of the first class traditional ruler.

Also, some chiefs confided that the oba had joined his ancestors. They said that official announcement would be made in due course.

The atmosphere in the city remained calm with many residents trooping to the Popoyemoja Palace of the traditional ruler to confirm the news.

Scores of residents were seen in groups discussing the demise of the traditional ruler in the early day of the New Year.
