Lagos State Government through the State Treasury Office, STO, has charged Directors/Heads of Finance and Accounts in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to work together as a team to achieve good results.
Speaking, at a 2-day retreat organized by the State Treasury Office, STO for Finance and Accounts Officers on Friday, with the theme ‘Strengthening Public Finance in Lagos State- Compliance to Performance.
The Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Mr Abayomi Oluyomi told the Finance Officers that the era of staff working without synergy in the Stateis over, therefore all of them should collaborate to produce results
Abayomi noted that Lagos State is blessed with staff who must come together as a team to deliver quality services to Lagosians.
“What Lagos State is enjoying is the quality of our staff. In the past, there are many people working in parallel without synergy. So this retreat is to open the eyes of our staff to collaboration which is the most important thing because without it, we will just be working at cross purposes.
Working individually is no longer recognised in Lagos State. What we want is collaboration. When you collaborate, the work environment is better for it. Motivation is not only about money.
It’s also about the work environment. Collaboration is what we are preaching now,” Abayomi said.
Addressing the gathering, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Treasury Office, Dr. Adetola John told them that so much is expected from them as account officers from their various ministries and MDAs.
“What we need for us to get to the top is collaboration and team work. You should avoid being the weak link and ensure we move our respective offices forward so we can be a better team. It’s not just for us to work in cycles but as a team. So much is expected of us because we all need ourselves. We should be a big fish that cannot be swallowed. This time, we are moving from compliance to performance,” he said.
The Guest Speaker, Dr. Joshua Ademuwagun told the participants that to collaborate effectively, they must put aside their differences and imbibed trust, commitment and accountability.
“Lack of team work can be the bane of getting good results. Your job individually is to help your team win. Collaboration must be the name of the game. It takes collaboration and team work to achieve good results. Team members should help each other and leverage on their strengths. If you want to achieve your mission and vision,you must collaborate, it’s not an option,” he told the participants.
