Coronavirus: Ayade places Cross River state on Lockdown



Cross River state Governor Ben Ayade has ordered the closure of all  the entry points into Cross River State. The lockdown covers land, air and water accesses to the state.
Mr. Christian Ita, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, in a statement, said the governor who gave the directive in a decisive response to the likely  ravaging effects of the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic,  also directed that all educational institutions in the state, both public and private should be  shut down today {Tuesday , March 24,  2020) until further notice.
Civil servants, except those on essential services (medical personnel and revenue officers) are also to stay away from work for an initial period of 2 weeks.
All public areas, pubs, bars and restaurants were also advised to limit patronage to five customers at a time while all social, cultural and religious activities have been suspended  just as  essential activities must not have more than  5 persons at a sitting.
 The statement further directed the  Commissioner for Health to set up COVID-19 adhoc monitoring unit to enforce compliance to all preventive measures as highlighted.
The government statement also directed all  transport companies to  keep a travel manifest for inbound and outbound passengers.
 They must also provide hand wash stands and hand sanitizers in their buses while passengers are enjoined  to wash their hands with soap and water and sanitize them before boarding.
In addition, Corporate and business organizations in the state are to  keep visitors registers as well as report any  guest with high temperature above 38 degrees Celsius to the COVID-19 emergency center.
In a related development, the  Local Government Council elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 28, 2020, has been suspended indefinitely.
