Coastal Highway, Eko Bridge Under Inspection as Civil Engineers Track Mega Projects for Economic Revival

As part of direct interventions to ensure quality assurance and high-yield economic returns on ongoing national infrastructure projects, the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) has commenced physical technical inspections of major transportation megaprojects across Lagos State.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing held at Ojodu, Lagos, Tuesday, national chairman of NICE, Engr Tokunbo Ajanaku revealed that the body will embark on a project tour of selected projects executed by both Lagos and Federal government including: Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Eko Bridge, Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Ope Bridge and the Oworonshoki corridor.

According to Ajanaku, the tour forms a core highlight of the 24th International Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the institution, which opened in Lagos on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Opening the three-day international gathering themed “Civil Engineering: Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure for Economic Growth,” the leadership of NICE disclosed that civil engineers are taking a decisive stance to align federal and state megaprojects with strict durability and job-creation benchmarks.

According to him, the technical field inspections allow engineering experts to evaluate progress on critical economic corridors, noting that several projects initially inspected during the 2022 conference are now being successfully rounded up.

“Where you find good infrastructure, you will find a civil engineer,” the leadership declared, emphasizing that from Lagos to Maiduguri, and Kano to Calabar, Nigerian civil engineers are actively anchoring the multi-tier infrastructure push to drive economic growth, foster innovation, and raise living standards.

The conference and AGM, running through Thursday, October 22, bring together engineers, infrastructure policy experts, and private sector leaders to establish stronger operational links between engineering practice, government policy, and sustainable national development.

Activities for the three-day summit feature high-level project field inspections and technical paper presentations on the opening day, followed by the official opening ceremony, high-impact plenary policy sessions, and the annual Fellowship Awards and Dinner on day two.

Ajanaku added that the event will conclude on the third day with final technical sessions and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to present the stewardship report for the preceding year and swear in new executive leadership.

NICE reaffirmed to the public that the engineering body will continue to enforce professional standards to guarantee that public funds spent on capital projects across Nigeria yield maximum structural resilience and long-term economic value.
