– Sanwo-Olu charges corps members

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged newly sworn-in corps members to be enterprising, be counted among good ambassadors and positive change agents of the nation.
Sanwo-Olu made the call at the official opening and swearing-in of 2024 Batch A, Stream II orientation course on Tuesday at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Age, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu was represented by Hon. Olugbenga Oyerinde, the Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.
“your journey of national service has begun, offering a chance to contribute meaningfully to the development of our beloved nation.
“Remember the incredible legacy established by your predecessors. I urge you to emulate their commitment, patriotism and contribute your quota to the growth of our fatherland.
“Do not pay lip service to words of the oath of allegiance which you have sworn today, rather let it fuel your commitment to national development, unity and cohesion,” said the governor.
He commended Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, her team and other supporting agencies for successfully kickstarting the orientation programme.
He pledged that the state would continue to provide an enabling environment for the scheme to discharge its duties and enable the corps members serve the nation diligently.
Earlier, Baderinwa said a total of 4,450 corps members (1,785 males and 2,665 females) were posted to Lagos State for the service year, while some had been deployed to Ogun and Osun States respectively for the orientation programme.
The State Coordinator noted that the orientation programme was an integral part of the scheme, aimed at preparing the graduates for the complex task of nation-building.
“Your call to join the vanguard of youths in the service of your fatherland is a noble one, you must, therefore, avail yourself of the opportunities provided by the course to be the best you can.
“With the lessons of orientation course, our young persons would have imbibed our national culture, value, basic lessons of human sympathy, emotional intelligence, stripped of tribal sentiments.
“It will also inspire them to aim for leadership skills and drive the nation aright in their area of specialities throughout their service year,” she said.
