The recent statement by one group, called “National Progressive Initiative (NPI)” suggesting that the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, embarked on politically motivated activities in Oyo State is, to put it mildly, a creative distortion of reality. It misrepresents both the intent and content of his engagements, which were aimed squarely at fostering unity and strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) family—not at chasing votes.
According to a statement by Oyo Progressive Front (OPF),a political pressure group in Oyo State and signed by the State Coordinator, Comrade Ola Ayorinde and Secretary, Omolola Osundina, the Minister’s zonal consultations were strictly internal APC affairs. “They involved only party members, no campaign slogans, no manifestos, and certainly no electoral promises. They were designed to rebuild bridges, reinvigorate grassroots participation, and reestablish cohesion after a period of dormancy in the party’s local structure. If listening to party members and encouraging unity now qualifies as a political campaign, then perhaps the dictionary of politics needs an urgent update.
“Chief Adelabu’s record speaks for itself. A thoroughbred professional, former Executive Director and CFO of First Bank, and one-time Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he is far too disciplined—and frankly too prudent—to “throw money around” in the name of politics. His history in both public service and politics has never reflected such recklessness. Those who know him understand that he values results, not reckless spending, and certainly not the kind of transactional politics some appear to be imagining.
“Equally important, as Oyo State’s representative in the Federal Executive Council, Chief Adelabu has a responsibility to brief his constituents on government efforts in the power sector—a sector that directly impacts homes, businesses, and livelihoods. These consultations were, therefore, not about politics, but about accountability and transparency. The improvements in electricity supply across the country are evidence of his focus and dedication to the job, not a backdrop for political theatrics.
“If anyone feels unsettled by the renewed energy within Oyo APC, they are, of course, free to take a page from the Minister’s book and engage the people constructively. Leadership by example shouldn’t be mistaken for ambition. Chief Adelabu remains committed to uniting his party, serving his country, and delivering tangible results—values that will always speak louder than speculation”.
