……Ask owners and developers to adhere strictly to the Building Plan Approval given to them

In a bid to rid the State of illegal development and enforce compliance on the part of the building public, the Lagos State Government today through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in conjunction with Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KIA), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Ikeja GRA Residents Association (IGRARA) jointly carried out routine monitoring and enforcement exercise where illegal shanties were removed in Ikeja, GRA.

According to the Permanent Secretary overseeing the affairs of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki who led the team, the removal of all the shanties in Ikeja, GRA is deemed necessary because of the security threats it poses to the residents and the environment as they are being used by miscreants to perpetrate heinous crimes.

“The Agency received complaints from the residents of Ikeja, GRA about the abnormalities happening in the vicinity that poses security threats as goods suspected to be stolen are hidden in most of the shanties, hence their removals” he stated.

Oki further stated that prior to the removal of the shanties, series of meetings had been held with the residents of the area and letters sent to all the building owners and developers where they were told to present their building documents in order to confirm their conformity to the approvals granted them by the State Government.

He implored building owners and developers in the area to adhere strictly to the approval granted them by the State as flouting of the approval will not be tolerated and offenders will face the consequences of their illegal actions.

“Building owners and developers should always put residents’ comfort into consideration during constructions by building according to the law”, he added.

One of the residents , Mr. Tunde Disu applauded the State Government for their prompt action in the removals of the shanties which had constituted a security nuisance in the area and promised the residents full cooperation in bringing sanity to Ikeja, GRA, and its environs.
