Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, traditional ruler of Ikate-Elegushi in Eti-Osa, Lagos State, has urged NYSC members to celebrate diversity and promote national unity.

He made the call on Saturday during the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Cultural Carnival at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, describing it as a moment of reflection.

Elegushi said the event celebrated Nigeria’s diversity and encouraged corps members to appreciate differences while uniting for a common national purpose.

He praised NYSC for instilling core values in corps members, urging them to work together for a stronger, inclusive, and united Nigeria.

“The cultural day allows us to engage tradition, honour heritage, and celebrate a history that unites us in diversity,” Elegushi said.

The NYSC cultural celebration was a vibrant display of Nigeria’s rich heritage, bringing together corps members from across the country.

It highlighted how cultural expression fosters mutual respect, shared identity, and a sense of belonging among the nation’s youth.

Mrs Christiana Salmwang, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, said cultural heritage remains a vital thread uniting Nigerians.

She stressed NYSC’s commitment to promoting cultural appreciation as a foundation of national development and unity.

“Through dance, music, and attire, corps members embrace unique cultures while honouring their shared Nigerian identity,” Salmwang said.

She added that the event reinforced NYSC’s role in fostering unity and celebrating Nigeria’s diverse traditions.

Platoon 4, presenting Ibibio (South-South), won first place; Platoon 9, with Tsa Utu (North Central), came second; Platoon 5, showing Oghene (South-East), was third.

The carnival also featured a competition between the ten platoons, showcasing various Nigerian cultural representations.
